Menu Bar

Menu Bar Overview

WaveDrive lives entirely in your macOS menu bar. There is no Dock icon and no full-screen window — just a compact popover that keeps out of your way while your DAW is open.

Click the WaveDrive icon in the menu bar to open the popover. The icon itself reflects the current sync status at a glance.

Popover Layout

The popover is divided into three areas:

Status bar — Shows the current connection state, account name, and a sync activity indicator at the top.
Recent files — The five most recently synced files, each with name, folder, and timestamp. Click to reveal in Finder.
Footer actions — Quick links to open Preferences, pause sync, and quit WaveDrive.

Auth States

WaveDrive shows different popover content depending on the authentication state:

Connected

Account linked, sync active. Recent files and status are visible.

Not Linked

No device link yet. The popover shows a Link Device prompt and a QR code or link to WavePlan.

Reconnecting

Token expired or network lost. WaveDrive is attempting to re-authenticate automatically.

Status Indicators

The WaveDrive menu bar icon changes appearance to communicate the current sync state without requiring you to open the popover.

Idle

All folders up to date. No sync activity in progress.

Syncing

One or more files are queued or actively uploading / downloading.

Paused

Sync paused by user or by a DAW Performance Guard. Events are still recorded; uploads resume automatically when unpaused.

Disconnected

No active device link or network is unavailable. WaveDrive is not syncing and will retry when connectivity is restored.

Error

One or more files failed to sync. Open the popover to view error details in the Activity Log.

Recent Files

The Recent Files list in the menu bar popover shows the last five files that WaveDrive successfully synced — in either direction.

What's Shown

Each entry in the recent files list displays:

File name — Truncated to fit the popover width; hover to see the full name.
Sync folder — The name of the WaveDrive folder the file belongs to.
Direction — An upload or download indicator showing which way the file moved.
Relative timestamp — e.g. "2 min ago" or "Yesterday".

Reveal in Finder

Click any file row to reveal the file in Finder. If the file was a download that has been moved or deleted locally since syncing, WaveDrive will show a brief "File not found" message instead.

Detail Popover

Right-click (or secondary-click) a file row to open a detail popover showing the full file path, exact sync timestamp, file size, and a link to view the file in WavePlan's Drive file browser.
